New outfits

Hannah and I are hanging out this weekend with Gramma (my mom). She brought some new outfits for Hannah, so we had a little dress up time last night. I am glad that Hannah tolerates this since I have had fun doing this lately.
She even got a new hat that finally fits her big head. Too cute!

We interrupt this program...

to bring you some random facts. I was "tagged" by Erin in a blogging game, so here it goes.

The Rules:
1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog (about their 8 things) and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Here are my 8 facts/habits (you have to promise not to laugh, at least not to hard).

1. I cannot stand overalls on men! This has to be one of my biggest pet peeves ever. I cannot look at a man in overalls without giggling inside (or outloud). It just seems wrong to me. Now, little babies or boys in overalls are adorable, but there is an age when it turns unacceptable for the male gender (probably around 5).
2. I am an on time/early person, and it drives me crazy to be late for anything. I plan my day out so that I will not be even close to late. People told me that having a baby would change that but it has only made me more hypervigilent. Jason and I are both like this and we used to have to work at being late to home group. In fact, I think being fashionably late to HG is normal, so we used to sit on the couch and "wait" to leave so we could be late. It started to bother me to much, so now we just show up right on time. So, if you invite me to do something and give me a time to be there, make sure that is the exact time you want because I will be there...on time.
3. I am a closet Hannah Montana fan! I love her show, it is just fun and clean. In fact, I have walked into the living room and found Jason watching the show all by himself (which made me giggle). I had never even heard of the show until I was pregnant and the kids used to call the baby Hannah Montana. So, I figured I should watch it at least once to see if that was a compliment to Hannah or not. I guess I was hooked.
4. I cannot stand blue cheese! It makes me gag...enough said!
5. I don't like the thought of putting lotion on and then putting clothes over, so I rarely use lotion. With that said, I have no idea why I put lotion on Hannah after a bath and then clothe her. I guess that is what you are sopposed to do with a baby (and she smells so nice with baby lotion on) so I do it all the time. Let's hope she does not come to resent that one day.
6. Roman numerals are my pitfall. I think I missed the day in school when we learned how to read them. I get so confused between an X, V, C, D...and whatever else. I can easily read up to about III, then it takes me to long to figure out the rest. Why can't it just be written in normal numbers, why does the superbowl feel the need to use XXXVIII (P.S. I have NO idea what this number is)? Why don't you just say that it is Super Bowl 47? I know that I am a teacher and I should know this stuff, but I guess disinterest has squelched it in me.
7. I LOVE blueberry pancakes and bacon. I think I could eat this for every meal, although that would not be very healthy.
8. I would rather live in cold, snowy, rainy weather than in hot weather any day. I like bundling up and wearing sweaters and sitting by the fire with hot apple cider. I don't, on the other hand, like to sweat and change my shirt every 10 minutes because it is drenched.

So, now you know all the wierd facts/habits about me. I am going to "tag" Amy W. and Laura B. I know you both are busy with babies, but if you find the time I would love to read your lists.

What is it...

about the changing table that makes babies smile so much? Don't answer that, I definitely know WHY, but it is funny how quickly they come to associate the changing table with a clean diaper. I would be smiling too! Hannah is delighted every time you put her down on the changing pad. In fact, even if she is crying and you put her down she will begin smiling at you. It is so cute. Here is just one more trick in our arsenal for calming a fussy baby...change the diaper (even if it is not dirty).

Sweet success....(let's hope)

For those of you who have been around Hannah much, you know that she has an unhealthy addiction to being swaddled when she sleeps. We have been trying to break this habit lately since she has started rolling over (which she does not do tons yet). She LOVES to be swaddled so much that she has begun waking up at about 4am and after realizing she has come unswaddled she will whine until we come in and reswaddle her (UGH!). So, we have been painfully working at not doing this lately. She has now been napping without the swaddle, but last night was the first night she was not swaddled (well, from the waist up at least). She slept the WHOLE night without whining or wanting to be reswaddled! Praise God! So, when I put her down for her morning nap this morning she went to sleep without being swaddled again. So, let's hope this will work for our little swaddler baby!

Hannah can never decide whether to eat/suck on just 1 finger...

...or 2...

...or a fist...

...what the heck, just try and put all 10 in your mouth!

Jason snapped this scary baby face picture the other day. I am convinced that he told her a joke that she didn't find funny, or maybe he looked at her wrong. Anyway, I am sure she will one day come to resent the fact that I posted this picture for everyone to see. Oh, well, it's cute!
In other news, we had Hannah weighed yesterday and she now weighs in at a whopping 13 lbs 9oz. No wonder it is getting harder to carry her in her carseat. We are anticipating that we can begin cereal and food after her 4 month appt in Sept. She needs to weigh 14 lbs before we can begin food, and I think she will come in right on target.

I hope these 3 pictures below redeem the above picture.

Baby giggles

I imitated Hannah today with a deep throat noise and she thought it was hilarious. I felt silly making the noise over and over, but I am sure I will do much sillier things to make her laugh again. What a joyous sound!

Reading time

We have started reading with Hannah and she seems to enjoy looking at the pictures on each of the pages. We also bought some cheap Dr. Seuss books on eBay (which I recommend if you are looking for some) so we will be able to introduce her to those soon. I might have to start posting in rhyme after reading Dr. Seuss books several times. Here is Jason reading to Hannah...so cute!

Bath time

Hannah LOVES taking baths and here are some really cute pics to prove it. I probably don't give her baths as often as she would like but when I do you can tell that she really enjoys them. She has a nice case of cradle cap now so I try not to dry it out more by washing it to often.

Simpsonized

I saw this on Beth and Mab's blogs, so I thought I should try it. What do you think, do you like us better in yellow? You can find the Simpsonizer here.

And baby makes 3

The Whitlark family has now welcomed grandbaby #3. Kathryn Elizabeth (Kate) was born on Sunday August 12 to Laura and Jason Brantley. She weighed 7lbs 4oz and was 19 3/4 in long.

So, there are now 3 grandbabies that were all born within 3 months of each other! This will make for many, many fun times ahead as all the cousins grow up together. So, here is the breakdown:
Hannah Alathea 5/14/07
Bryce Andrew 6/22/07 (born to Jason's brother and sister-in-law)
Kathryn Elizabeth 8/12/07 (born to Jason's sister and brother-in-law)

I can't wait to post a picture of the three babies together, but unfortunately that will not happen until Christmas of this year. But, here is Laura at 8 months pregnant hanging out with Hannah and Bryce (that is the best I can do for now).

2 most favorite things

I would love to say that Hannah's 2 most favorite things are her Mama and Daddy, but alas that is not true. They are her tongue and her fingers. So all of her pictures contain one or both of these things. At least now she has moved from her whole fist in her mouth to just 1 or 2 fingers. The drawback to that is that she often sticks her fingers so far in her mouth that she gags herself - nice huh!? I think I will be glad when she finally finds her toes (as long as she can't contort herself to get those in her mouth also!).

Baby push ups

Our little TV addict

Here is the evidence of Hannah's TV watching addiction. We don't allow her to watch much TV at all, but this is what she looks like when she can steal a glance at the TV. I guess we will have to have our floor fun time in other rooms from now on.

Thursday, August 9, 2007

Not much to report these days. Things are going well here and Hannah continues to steal our hearts more each day. She is beginning to reach out for objects and show more interest in things you put before her. On a side note, she is overly interested in the TV. It scares me a bit that she likes watching it so much, but if you turn her toward it she is captivated! We try to not do this much, as I don't really want this to become a habit.
Also, as you might have begun to notice it is rare that we get any pictures of Hannah without her tongue out or her hands in her mouth. I think these two activities are her favorite.

Waking up...

Hannah has a very predictable pattern when she wakes up from her naps (very much like her daddy). So, I finally decided to capture it on video. Enjoy!
By the way, Hannah is 12 weeks old today!!!!

Quite a week...

Sorry I have not updated much lately, I was a bit under the weather last week. I am finally getting over having strep throat though, and thankfully Hannah has not shown signs of any sickness. Please pray that she does not get sick from this...that would not be any fun! She has not rolled over again but we are anxiously waiting with the video camera though! Otherwise all is well here. Jason is gearing up for school to start, he has new teaching responsibilities this year which will be exciting. We have worked out a way for me to volunteer at the school for 1 morning a week, so that will be a nice outlet for me once the year starts.
I have posted a few new pictures from this week to show our growing little girl. She is delightful! I don't know if I say that enough so I just thought you should hear it again.
P.S. Thanks for the outfit Alair...it still fits!

Oh my goodness...

...she rolled over! I never thought I would be this excited over something so small, but I called Jason at work and had to tell him all about it. I think he was with other professors at lunch when I called, but oh well. Hannah and I were hanging out on the bed and she rolled from her tummy to her back. I have tried to recreate the circumstances so I can get a video of, but she has not done it again....yet. Maybe she is waiting until Jason gets home so she can show him before everyone else.
I will post a video when I can finally catch her doing it. YAH!

Pics from last weekend with the family

For some reason these are some of my favorite pictures of Hannah. She is so cute when she is swaddled and sucking on a pacifier.

Here is the whole family (yes Alair, you are family!) early on the morning that we all left.

Halee (my sweet niece) playing outside. Check out her beautiful curls!

Josiah (my adorable nephew) playing on the tire swing. Someday soon Hannah will be able to join him.
